Gold Coupe for Sale

Postby Stuart9697 » Sun Jul 19, 2009 6:15 am

I've decided to sell my Midas Gold Coupe as I needed something bigger and have just bought my neighbour's GOLF V5

This MIDAS is one of the very last made by the factory in 1989 before it burnt down.

It has a MED 1380 engine that was rebuilt by Bill Richards Racing in 2008 with a Swiftune SW507 Cam, roller rockers, new items include oil pump, clutch assembly and hydraulic slave, primary gear bearings, fuel pump, petrol tank, distributor and ignition set.

I have a brand new heated front screen for the car still in its wrapper.

MOT'd and taxed.

I will post up more info shortly, I'm not in a rush to sell but if anyone is interested let me know

Just to respond to a few queries raised in messages thanks.

I will take some more pics of the interior and engine bay shortly.

The original owner built his own Gold Coupe from a kit which was then written off in an accident where someone ran into him. He then had a long fight with his insurance company about a "new" replacement, which he eventually won. The result was that the factory were then commissioned to build this car from new.

It has AP racing brake hubs and 4 hex bolts in the roof for a roof rack (which I was told the factory were experimenting with at the time).

Price is negiotiable, I bought the car for £1200, spent £900 on labour for the engine rebuild alone not including the parts (new cam + followers. roller rockers, clutch).

The parts that are negotiable for inclusion (or not) are the revolution wheels, the roller rockers and the new screen. I also have a new steering rack and tow bar as spares. Minus those specific parts, I won't be selling it for less than £1500. If it doesn't sell I might just keep it as it always starts first time, oil pressure is good, it doesn't overheat and it is so much fun to drive. It gets more attention than my Marcos.

I also have clean set of MG Metro alloys that can go with the car plus a set of racing slicks.

I also have a 1275cc Metro auto with 30,000 miles on the clock that I bought when the MIDAS engine was being rebuilt and originally intended to use for spares. It is in very good condition both body wise and mechanically and has been in daily use for the past year. Prior to me the Metro had one 89 year old lady driver and it feels like it.

I would prefer to sell everything as a job lot, but am open to negotiate.

More info

I have had the car for 2 years and it is in Clapham park in South West London - just off the A23 junction with Streatham Place on the A205

It has a new 3 branch exhaust, new duplex timing chain and I have a newly reconditioned 12g940 cylinder head that I was planning to fit while Bill Lawrence does some gas flowing on the Med head

It doesn't have the Midas under tray but it is very clean underneath

It is exempt from mot gas tests, doesn't have a catalist converter

it runs on unleaded fuel

The bodywork doesn't leak in a carwash

The metal bits e all sound metal although there is some surface rust on the rear
suspension

I replaced the original metro fuel tank with a new metro one before I realised that the mini van one fits better - so I now have a brand new mini van one waiting to be fitted

I don't think it has been used on the track and it runs fine on the road - it has been legal on the road the past 2 years

I have a brand new new speedo and TIM ammeter and voltmeter ready to fit on the dash - it has a new Tim oil pressure guage fitted

it has lightweight bucket seats, as new with no holes or tears in them. but perhaps the wrong colour in brown and cream

The rear light covers are new

It has a heated rear screen although one of the connectors needs re-soldering,

There is a short between the wipers and the heater - use one at a time and its ok, use both and the fuse blows

The engine solenoid electrics are new

It could do with a respray - the top half is in satin black, the sides look original and relatively clean, the body work/ monocoque is solid - I don't think its ever been in an accident

The front inner wheel arches had to be trimmed to allow the tyres to fit - they are all 195/55/13 -

I bought it from a middlle aged collector who became too ill to drive it

I have the registration docs and some service history

That's also what I'm planning to do when it's finished.

Drove it back from London to the Netherlands and I got out of the car without any pain or aches. (1.80 meters tall)
