Hello chaps and chapesses.

Whats the score with the new MOT rules for 2012?

Does anyone know the impact on kit cars, in particular existing kit cars?

Cheers,

David

Thankfully as Midi are relatively simple beasts, most of the new rules don't affect us.
That is unless you've gone and fitted The following:
Electronic parking brake
Electronic stability control
Electronic power steering Warning light
Tyre pressure. " "
Seatbelt " "
HID headlamps to have a working wash system
You get the message.

What could trip us up is:
Doors must open from outside and inside
Battery and wiring must be safe and secure
Seats must be able to move forward and aft in 2 or 3 positions
Speedo must be fitted and working
Stearing lock fitted and working

All pretty obvious really.

So your seats MUST have fore and aft adjustment? The Marcos springs to mind - the one where the seats are fixed and the pedals slide back and forward. Or was it a TVR?

That's true, hadn't thought of that.
Though the new rules came into force on January 1st, there is a 4 month 'bedding in' period, so any cars failing the new MOT rules will be given an advisory comment before April 1st, rather than a fail.
That means that if your MOT is due in early April, It would be advisable to enter your car for it's appointment as early as possible, so you have some time to rectify any faults before April.
Luckily my Midas' MOT is due end of this month.

Thanks Max Midas.

I have just seen that towbar wiring must be working too (if fitted).

The driver's seat in my Alpine is bolted down. Why on earth have they dreamt that one up? How is that less safe than a moveable seat?
