The more I think about the fuel gauge problem, the more I am inclined to think about fitting a Rover Metro instrument panel. I need a 3 speed heater switch as well, plus I believe that the Rover panel has a clock, something I find very useful nowadays. I did like the look of the Rover 213 panel initially, but I struggle to see the row of warning lights along the top of it. I briefly considered a digital dashboard, but apart from the expense, I don't think I could fit it in a way that would look as if it belonged in the car.

Although a new owner I guessed that the readings were because of mis matched resistors. If the the 213 temp sensor has the same threads as the metro replacing it should sort the temps out. As for the fuel I noted the mileage when it reached zero then ran it dry ( on minor roads). That was 120 miles from zero. When it ran out the engine just cut there was no warning at all! So now 80 miles from zero I fill it up again and keep a fuel can in the boot.

There is currently an original mini instrument pod on e bay which I am finding tempting as a replacement.

It's quite possible that my temperature gauge is actually reading correctly, and that my thermostat has failed! I'd seen photos of the converted instrument panel with the two resistors fitted, but after inspecting my own, I'm fairly sure that the resistors are solely used to modify the reading of the fuel gauge - I don't think the temperature gauge circuit is affected at all.
I do accept that it's quite possible to work out how far you can safely drive after the gauge reads zero fuel, carry a jerrycan, etc., but I'd much rather have a gauge that gives me a reasonably accurate idea of what's in the tank, since that's its job, after all! :)

Metro Mk2, I offered them as a freebie a while back and had no interest. Can't remember if I ended up binning them, I'll have a dig around.

Ah - it's something I've only recently realised that I need, so it wouldn't have registered with me before. If you can find them, and they're the Rover Metro type, I'd be happy to take them off your hands, free or not!

I think I'd still like to convert to a complete Rover Metro instrument panel, but that's a much bigger job than changing two gauges in the panel. Something for the more distant future perhaps.
