anybody got any experience of 8 valve vauxhall engines? Looks like 1 may fit without body mods. Was thinking of one out of any early 90's astra which came in 1.6 or 1.8 guise. They run a distributor system and I could put twin webers on so no ecu worries

Our apprentice had a 1.8l 8valve astra. This was a torquey unit, and very impressive on autotests, much better than a 16valve motor. When he put twin 40's on it, it lost a quite a bit low down but huge gains above 4000 rpm. Grasstrackers have used this engine long time, and many preferred it to red top 16valve!

I'm not very knowledgeable on the very new engines like Aygo, but with these does the ecu read off the key transponder as an anti-theft device? Would cheese me off if I had to fit a toyota steering column, to use the ignition key with chip. Is there a way out of this prob?

The C16SE multipoint injection engine is pretty easy to wire up with I believe just 6 wires or less needed, 100hp as standard. I wouldn't want carbs myself, that kinda defeats the point of doing an engine sawp IMO.
