Internal gear linkage

I've given up on the idea of an engine conversion and just going for a well built a series with a supercharger so when we get a bit of sun or I buy a tent to put up on the drive as a makeshift garage the total car rebuild will begin. The problem I've always had is the exhaust grounding out so I'm thinking of moving the gear linkage inside the car with the help of 2 uj's so the exhaust can sit comfortably in the tunnel. The question is 'has anybody tried this before?' as I don't want to prat about doing it and finding out gear selection is crap or other issues. Any advice gratefully accepted

I'd be tempted to look at your exhaust first, I never had trouble with my exhaust catching, where the exhaust passed the gearlever box was tight I'll admit, the exhaust is even flattened out on one side to squeeze it between the housing and tunnel.

I agree with Stuart. Flatten the exhaust partly and it should pass the remote gearbox without issues. Here's a pic of mine, it hardly sticks out the bottom:

I realise there is room for both the gearchange and the exhaust in the tunnel, but I've been having thoughts along a slightly different line to Wolfie; a conversion to a cable change system.

Thinking about it is as far as I've got, though...

I've got a GTM stainless system with the bit by the rod change flattened, 3 problems tho are rattling (even with new bobbins) and the gelcoat has actually burnt because of heat plus crap road surfaces and more humps than an army of camels are constantly grinding it
