I've got a pair of coilover brackets for the Gold, I believe these were Davids a while back. I've spent a fun packed afternoon trying to get everything lined up to avoid touching bodywork and tyres etc.

I've already widened the opening to accept the wider Protech units, when it comes to the handbrake brackets are these intended to fit over the existing brackets or do I remove them and fabricate my own brackets to weld to the bottom of the coil over brackets?

Does that make sense???

Pictures please, then it will remind me of the problem!

A picture of the bracket I can do, in situ would be tricky right now.

If they are like the ones in the picture, then they will need packing washers between the bracket and the arms.

The existing metro hand brake bracket should fit in front of the bracket, from memory sandwiched between bracket and arm.. Have you looked at my pictures?

The brackets work ok but to be honest I don't think they are as good an engineering solution as either Alans Stub axle or mine. I have had some of the m8 (or 5/16") bolts sheer on mine in the past.

I'm intending to use some metric cylinder head bolts with a higher tensile rating than the 8.8 bolts. I hadn't seen your pics before David.

The bracket as it stands at the moment, it has been widened about 5mm to accommodate the Protech unit.

I'd love the stub axle option but lack of current availability, money etc isn't going to get the car back on the road right now, it's been off for over two months as it is. I did consider making my own but in reality it isn't going to happen.

Looks like they have been modified at the back with weld. I assume thats what you meant by widening them?

Offer the handbrake brackets up. I can't remember whether they go front or back, but they will have a natural fit. You will then need to use 3 or 4 packing m8 washers up against the radius arm casting so it sits square. They then should fit right, assuming the subframe was centred and properly fitted. When I built my convertible I had to drill all the holes to fit the subframe. The coupe which I didn't build wasn't centred correctly until I sorted it.

I've been up to the garages today, done a few jobs, then taken dimensions for the extended stub axle. I've got a spare set, but couldn't get the dimensions I needed, so had to find an original stud axle to measure. I've now got all the dimensions and will produce a drawing tomorrow and hopefully get some prices next week. I was intending dropping the RH & LH thread idea and making them all RH thread. Does anyone see a problem with this? After all they are secured with a split pin!
Again the price will depend on quantity and convincing Midas owners that they need spares! I made spacers to pack off the handbrake bracket. I'll try and find a larger picture.
