Window runner

I might have the wrong term here but I mean the bit that clips to the bottom of the wind-up window on the old two piece windows.

Are there any sources for a suitable replacement? There are no metros in the local yard (who'd have thought you could ever say that?) I have a vague recollection that someone had mentioned a suitable substitute, possibly Land Rover?

yes you could use a wind up landrovers. Cut it in 2 and you have one for each side

Mine are Land Rover Defender 90 jobbies and they work a treat, you can get them on fleabay cheaply along with the rubber liners which are normally a bit crusty on the originals.

By way of returning a favour, there is an Austin Metro in my local breakers. Unfortunately they only let you in that bit of the yard on a Saturday and I will not be able to get there for at least the next two without risking divorce. However, if you are not in any hurry and can give me a photo of the bit you want then I'd be delighted to pull it off and post it on...

Thank you for the offer, it's the bit that clamps to the bottom of the window glass. I've a feeling the yard might want you to buy the glass too which would be OTT.

I took the old metro ones out of mine as they tended to cock up at one end and wedge.Used the ones out of an mgb roadster my neighbour was scrapping. Work a lot better. I presume you mean the bit thats also got the channel the rollers run in.I might still have them but I'm sure they had been cut into two short lengths for each door. I'll have a look tomorrow.

While divorce proceedings are probably immanent, I had to visit the scrapyard today to pick up a new master cylinder and vacuum unit as mine suddenly developed the interesting fault of intermittently staying partially on after I took your foot off the brake. This was an interesting enough fault even for my beloved to accept. However, the upshot is that, in between playing Houdini with tourettes, I whipped out the driver's side runner from a G reg Metro Clubman. If you want to pm me a postal address, I'll pop it over to you.
