Handbrake cable

Postby Rich » Tue Mar 10, 2009 1:49 pm

Hi,

Any idea what a new handbrake cable is going to hit me for before I bother Alistair? I've tried to save mine but it's beyond it unfortunately, it would be nice to know if it's going to be possible this side of pay day.

A standard Metro cable FKB1021 2075mm 80-85 cable is around £23 from my supplier.

I note that the 85 onwards cable is 2210mm long.

I believe it must be possibe to use a standard cable with the link part on the opposite side to standard, that would require the drilling of a hole for the little plastic clip, and may require some fine adjustment of the handbrake position, I haven't tried it myself but it looks feasible to me.

I seem to remember the shorter Midas specific cable to be around £55, but don't quote me on that.

Thanks Stuart,

I've tried a standard cable alongside the frame and I think the only feasible option to keep everything neat is to buy a shortened cable. Thankfully £55 shouldn't be a show stopper with a bit of re-jigging.

Get one off ebay for about £8 then send it to Speedy Cables who have the notes to mod it.

Its modification 'b' off the top of my head.

Cheers,

A cable modified by Speedy Cables is £25 plus VAT and postage etc so about £34 at a guess plus the cost of buying, receiving and sending a cable in the first place, looking at a typical example that could add another £18 to the total.

That gives us a total of £52 and a whole lot of messing about as opposed to £53.50 delivered direct from Midas.

I have now asked both suppliers about any savings available against a given number of cables.

Thoughts please gents.
