Ride height?

Postby Rich » Sat Apr 04, 2009 5:24 pm

The day has finally come and my Midas is now stood on all four wheels..... for now.

I'm lucky enough to have my own hydragas pump from years back and I've pressurised the rear suspension that has just been rebuilt. What I can't find in the build manual is the ride height for the rear units, is it the same 12.5" as listed for the front units?

According to my build manual for convertible supplied by GTM in 1992, page 68, it says ; "The ride height is measured from the centre of the roadwheel to the bottom of the wheel arch vertically above the centre of the wheel. The ride height dimension is 12 1/4" +/- 1/8". PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS DIFFERENT FROM THE METRO SETTINGS."
I set my front to about 1/2" above, trundled around a bit then lowered to the correct setting and it appears to sit very nicely. During a conversation with Charlie Dodd some time ago, he said he'd lowered to a lower rideheight, I cannot remember whether it was lower than the above figures or lower than standard Metro settings. Perhaps Adrian may clarify. However, when I set initially at about 1/2" above build manual settings, traction was appalling, so much so I could not drive up my steep loose gravel drive! After lowering to correct height, problem was solved. Note, if front is too high, a reduction of traction at front will occur.
Hope this helps, Ron.
