Re: Respray needed
I'd rather not be accused of teaching grandma to suck eggs . . . however, for what it's worth, and based on experience, here goes. First, forget the "easy" way of using paint strippers, of any sort - you will almost certainly regret it. Strip the paint mechanically. you can use hand power, but I ...

Re: Mk 2 on Car and Classics
If I remember correctly, Gordon Murray had a Mk one or two, which benefited from some fancy suspension and an Alfasud power unit. I wonder what became of it. Anyway, I think his involvement with development can best be seen in the Mk three, in the form of the aerodynamic undertrays particularly ...

Re: Here's something I didn't know...
Russell Bulgin was certainly enthusiastic about Midas. I recall visiting the Corby works when the Motor magazine car arrived for a service - it was a sort of all-over grey colour (Dark blue in places), and Harold asked Russell when he had last washed it. "Washed it? No, you must've done it when it ...

Re: Screen washers
Personally, always used water with 20% IPA (not the beer, of course) with a dash of Mild Green Fairy, and never had a problem. Nice and cheap, too. Heated washers sound a bit too modern for me!

Re: Wanted, a wheel
The ones which immediately spring to mind were the two white vans we bought new from a dealer in Harwell. One eventually got turned into a Midas Mk 3, the other was chopped in for one of the first GTAs, the single cam 1400, which was a very nice car - it seemed to lack very little compared with the ...

Re: Wanted, a wheel
I should have read more carefully, but actually, some 1.3 metros DID have steels. I checked my memory against that of No.1 son, and he concurs that, amongst the several Metros we had, at least 2, 1300s, had steel wheels, whereas the MG versions , as well as some VDPs (maybe all) had alloys. We had a ...

Re: Wanted, a wheel
I've come to this one a bit late, but I would like to correct one of Stuart's comments. The Austin Metro certainly DID have 13 inch wheels, not 12 inch, and my experience of Mk3 Midas cars was that they came from Harold's factory with 13 Revolution wheels as a rule. All four with which I have been ...
