Will these wheels work on a Gold Convertible.

Post by Victorc »

Hi all.
Some you may have noticed the big potholes.
Well there was one I do not see, at least not soon enough.

The result?

One broken wheel.

So, I was trawling through Ebay and saw these.
Anyone know if they would fit?

Ebay item no 260785935672

Thanks Victor

Nope, that's a misleading ad, they're K-series Metro wheels that don't have the same 4" PCD as Mini and Metro wheels. They'll have a 95.25 PCD

Stuart,
Thanks for the information, I have had compatibility issues before (when I owned a Mini), so I am glad I asked.

Technically they wont fit as standard

.....however you would be able to make them fit if you redrilled the hubs at the opposing middle spaces between the existing studs and drill them to about 9.5mm holes (or best interference fit for studs). I found an old 10mm bit works in Ti. Its certainly less than 10mm afterwards!

This is actually VERY EASY to do on a standard metro hub as they have the centre locator in situ (which the mini ones dont)........

.....so knock out studs. Offer wheel up to hub, spin wheel round to midway position, centre punch holes then drill out.

Knock studs back in (preferable new ones) then job is done.

It then gives you a whole range of wheels to choose from....inc MGF ones.

CAVEAT. Do this at your own risk....however I dont think there is much risk here if you drill the holes tight and square.

Don't forget the big holes in the drive flange for the disc bolts. I also think the Rover Metro wheels have too much inset and what size is the centre bore I wonder.

Milling for larger studs in the original stud location for a 100 PCD is what I'd do if I wanted an even greater choice of wheels.

More inset is fine. Most modern cars are designed with a bigger inset anyway. If you want to change it just put spacers on and longer studs to reduce the backspace back to normal.....if there is any need.

Centre bore is no problem....either sleeve (temporarily) hub if its too small or machine a bit off the lugs in a lathe if its too big. Its what I did to get some wheels on a trailer when converting from 5 studs to 4 studs. (cheaper wheels).
