Hello Lads . I have fiberglassed the lower hole and the drain now operates as intended. This s my third classic car now and is giving me the most pleasure.I am slowly working my way through the TO DO list. Need new front carpet in black. Need details of batteries that will fit I.E Make and model number.Soften suspension etc . Thnks for all your help.Regards TOG

This is one battery that fits in the original position

one thing to note is it doesn't have round post terminals.
