Update..

I ended up getting hold of some G3 and spent yesterday wrestling with the buffer, I'm impressed with the results and I've now got a shiny Midas!

Now you just need to keep it out of the sun ;)

I have the same problem with the GRP panels on my motorhome too, I have shares in Autoglym super resin, keeping the shine is rather time consuming, and the gel-coat will be getting ever thinner each time.

I've polished it up with Meguairs which really comes up well, any idea how thick gelcoat is in comparison with paint?

It's much thicker than paint. My car is missing a few chips her and there. A wild guess is that the thickness is around 1mm.

Thanks Hans, more or less what I thought. I'm pretty sure this is the first time it's been cut back as the finish was pretty good with just the odd swirl when I picked up the car, it's got much worse as it's been sat on the drive concentrating on the mechanical side of things.

Time to change my avatar I think....

G3 is a heavy cutting compound, ideal for removing heavy swirls/scratches, but not ideal for light swirl removal on gel coat.

I would be tempted to use CarLack which will remove some of the light swirls and of course not hologram.

If your going to do it to remove all the swirls, clay, ipa, compound, polish, ipa, protect.
