The original seats in my car are showing their age and I am casting about for alternatives before I fess up and get them re-upholstered.

Does anyone have any idea of alternative donor seats that fit ok that I could consider.

I discovered that a set of aftermarket, cobra-like, seats are too wide across the 'wings' so they will be on eBay soon !!

The mgf seats fit well but don't have the tilt mechanism which makes accessing the back seats difficult, assuming you have the back seats. The only other thing to be careful of is making sure you fit them tight up to the tunnel or you could find the outer fixing bolts close to the sills. if you modify the front brackets and remove the rear you can make the seats get higher as you move them forward, which us handy if you have a shorter driver/passenger; also the further back the lower you get, handy for the taller person. I've heard and seen a few people using the MX5 seat, which in enos models have built in speakers in the head rest.

Thanks for that....I just found a pair of MX5 seats on eBay....in black leather - not the speaker versions but high backs and narrow, so should do the trick nicely

and I got the pair for the price of one Cobra seat !! Only snag is they are in the Midlands....so a bit of a logistics nightmare getting them down to the South Coat !

The cosmetic refurbishment has started: Just had the wheels powder coated in gloss black. They dont look good with the current body colour, but will look great when it is bright yellow next month !!

I've been thinking about trying to acquire a pair of leather MX5 seats for mine too - and the main reason for wanting leather is that I imagine that dog hair won't stick to them like it does to fabric!
However, I remember reading somewhere that the later MX5 seats - like those in your photos - were too high backed to fit in a Midas without touching the roof; I suppose that comment must have been referring to the Bronze/Mark 1/Mark 2 Midas.
So, how much of a gap is there between your headrests and your roof lining? Any chance of a photo?

to answer the questions:

wheel refurbishment cost £60 each, this included refitting tyres, new valves and balancing

as for the MX5 seats, they are tall, but there is a gap of 2inches between the headrest and the roof! I do not have rear seats so do not need the tilt, and anyway might be a problem with them being so tall !!

Just thought I would share my experience of getting my mr2 wheels powder coated.I had various quotes of what I considered to be too high a price,and went to the Newcastle Wheel Company with them loose in the back of the car. I had a chat with the owner and said I had always been told £50 per wheel and it would be cash.Without even blinking he said yes.They made a fantastic job and it transformed the look of the car.I would always haggle and be prepared to walk away.If they want your custom you wont get out of the shop!
