Ok the stub axle has arrived and the machining itself shouldn't be a problem.

Alan, were the axles you had made up hardened beyond the EN19'T' specification? I understand 'T' to be the unhardened spec which means I'd stand half a chance of turning it on the Myford with carbide cutters. The stub looks to have been case hardened.

Rich

Ps. Any idea where 200mm/22.2mm lengths of EN19 might come from?

Hi Rich,

My stubs were not hardened and seem to be fine. I personally don't see a need to harden them as it would just make them more brittle! The wearing surfaces are the bearings. Leave them in the malleable state would be my opinion.

I'm trying to get up to the garages, but the whole world seems to want a piece of me at the moment. But when I eventually get there I will send you some lengths and diameters. Can you PM me your email address?

I'll make a phone call regarding material tonight. How many do you envisage making?

Regards Alan

Hi Alan,

That removes one potential complication, as for how many I don't know really, at least two sets at present.

I'll PM my address through to you.

looks like a 'raised floor' Mk3 on that photo.

Is that your new Mk3 Coupe Stuart?

No probs Baz, I'll be taking them off shortly, but they've lasted 23 years so no urgent worries if they're sound. I'll look forward to seeing the photos of the MX5 seats once you've fitted them. Will it all be done for Stoneleigh?

Yes that's my new Mk 3 David.
