In the meantime I would suggest getting as many quotes for insurance as you can as there is quite a range of kit car policies available now and you need to find the one that suits you best.
Keep a copy of your membership application form as most insurers will accept that as proof of membership if you haven’t got your membership number back. Most of the kit car specialists offer discounts to club members even when they don’t have anything formally in place with the club - Insurance companies have found that car enthusiasts who join owners clubs make fewer claims, or smaller claims.
Apart from your age, where you live and where the car is kept, the factor that will make the biggest difference to kit car insurance is how you will use it. If it is your main car and you expect to do more than 10000 miles a year, and some Midas owners do, then expect to pay more than someone who has insurance on another car and does less than 6000miles a year. In fact that may define which insurance company you go with as some only offer limited mileage policies.
If you go for an agreed value insurance then the club can help with the valuation, if required. I would recommend not undervaluing your car, as that will only save a few pounds off the premium and could cost you dearly if you have to make a claim. In fact, if your car is particularly good it is worth basing the value on the true replacement cost rather than the market value. Our cars are undervalued as it is, despite being rare. If your car is a well kept example you will probably have difficulty finding one of a similar standard. Then you will need to consider what it would cost to bring one up to the standard of yours, or build from new.
For example, if your car has a 1380cc engine then you would be looking at spending £2.5-3k to replace that alone. A new kit is £5k, respraying an old shell is £2k -2.5k (any less and the primer coats will have been skimped on). Trim to that standard that Harold Dermott supplied would cost around £2k these days. It soon adds up.
Footman James and Adrian Flux both give Midas Owners Club members a discount so I would start with them:
