Just saw this on another club forum site....reposted here as I wouldn't want anyone to get caught out.
Please read into it carefully
Continuous Insurance Enforcement comes in on January 2011
Continuous insurance enforcement comes into effect in January 2011. From then on you must either have your car SORNED or insured or be liable for a £80 - £1000 fine.
This is particualrly dangerous for those of us with tax exempt cars who may get the free tax disc, run the car for the summer then let the insurance lapse over winter or whilst repairs are being carried out.
From January once your insurance has run out and you don't renew you must submit your tax disc and SORN the car and the reapply for a disc once you are insured again.
Doesn't matter if it's kept on private property / in a garage etc - it must be either insured or sorned. The only exceptions are those which are 'sorn exempt' - ones that have been off the road continuously since 1988
Wouldn't want anyone to get caught out but the fact that this has hardly been mentioned anywhere means a lot of folk sadly will - spread the word.
