Alternative engine in mk1 Midas!

Post by miniswift »

Hi,

My mate and I are making subframe to fit in Mini based kit car.
I thought I can start his progres as he may be making more subframes.

Anyway, here goes.
D16 trial fit.
Image

After making sure it fit nicely, we needed to cut the passenger head light but we have a cunning idea!

Image

This subframe has big enough space to take most of engines that 16v Mini member fit. So once we know it work, we shall take photos with different engines.

Cheers

p.s. this is not my car or my project. I'm just helping with CADs!

Unfortunately they won't be legal in the UK as they are Left Hand Drive and will point the wrong direction across the road and dazzle oncoming traffic. You won't get through an MOT with them you need RHD units

Nop, we have already checked.
They are simple pattern lights and aim it lower & towards left. For high beam, you can aim straight.
Like I said, Dave is mechanic and he is MOT inspector!

Hi,

So Dave has been a busy boy and it is nearly complete, well subframe wise.
He wanted try with 10" wheel.
Image

Well I designed subframe, I have built in -1.5 deg. negative camber, so it looks like -3!

Image

From the front, you can see we have about 4" ground clearance.
This is running height and it is 1" lower than standard height.
Image

Dave said it will be on 4 wheels by next week!

OK, Dave said next week but he means today!

Not bad wheel spacing.

It's nice to have a ramp!

Subframe looks like this.

Me and Alan_D will be making a rear beam axle setup so we might be able to fit 10" wheel with even disc brake!?

Dave think he will be able to work on exhaust and gear linkage next week.

I always said the d16 would be a good engine replacement, in glad someone had made the plunge. Looks to be a quick build too!

Hi,

I think D16 is bigger than G13B Swift Gti engine.
We have 3/4 of mk1/2 Midas so we can try with K-series, G13B and D16 using same subframe.
This is prototype so we will mod as we learn from it.
Hopefully, this car will be running by Jan '14.

Cheers
