Replacement Headlights & spot lights
Now the floods have finally gone (live in Muchelney, Somerset) I'm finally back into the process of getting my Gold Coupe (bought end of 2013) prepared for the MOT. Whilst genreally cracking on quite well both headlights and spot lights need replacing, and having taken them into a local parts dealer got a bit of a shock when he said he could get direct Cibie replacements for just inexcess of £250 and that was without bulbs! Does anyone know of alternative light units that can be used as direct replacements, as was hoping to be able to tap into some second-hand units to keep costs down at this stage - share wages with a wife & 3 kids who are not overly impressed with my purchase!!!!
Cheers,
Steve

That's a ridiculous price. They are manufactured by Valeo and are a general part used on other cars. I believe Dahaitsu has used them as well on their off road cars. I recall paying for mine about 60 euro a piece, say 50 pounds. Else search Ebay or contact Valeo (in Belgium) direct.
Anyway any 7 inch round light will fit, they just clamp in the plastic frame.

Cibie lights, as used as standard

and these are said to be very good, and at £29 a pair by far the cheapest decent headlights.

I've just found out the hard way that Wipac Crystals will not fit. The rim is thicker and I just could not force those horrible spring clips over. Luckily I'd just put a new pair of Cibies on my Ginetta, so these are now on the Midas. The Crystals are no problem with normal headlamp bowls.

Hi, Tog, I sold my G15 in about 1990, but here I am in it at Snetterton:

The present one ( for about 30 years) is a G21.

The smaller spotlights can be found on several 1970's era sporting saloons. If you look at cars that had four lights up front (RS2000 Mk2, Triumph 2000, Capri, Jags etc) and go for the inner units. From memory mine came from a Triumph and are Cibie units.

Thanks for all the advice. Managed to source a set of main & spots for just over £50. A bugger to fit!
