Present mileage estimated at 230,000, of which 150k on this engine. Having an easier time now I'm not working, so I ought to have time to smarten it up a bit!

Re: Q987 AFG - Live!
Hi Geoff,
230000 miles! Well I think you've had your money's worth out of that car and it will only have another twenty or thirty years of life left in it! I don't think Harold will give you a refund.

150k on an MED Engine....
Thats a Sterling result for an A series. MED workmanship is pretty good generally though to honest.
Just for interest how often do you change your oil? I have an inkling that the A series benefits from more regular oil changes of at least every 3000 miles, preferably less.
I spoke to Steve at MED and we discussed this, comparing the inline A series engine to the transverse A series. We agreed the inline engines journals stand up a lot better to wear than the transverse (gearbox in sump) engines. We put this down to the swarf build up from the wear on the gears (eg poor gear selection etc) getting sucked round the engine.
On a 60k mile midget, the journals look like new. On a 60k mile mini you are bound to expect some scoring. Hence the reason for regular oil changes.
Even using crap oil and changing it regular should do the trick.
Thats my 10 cents.

Re: Q987 AFG - Live!
Until recently I was doing about 16000 miles a year including a long commute, and I used to change the oil every 6000 miles. Now that my habits have changed I'll have to rethink that.

Could the present engine be the MED one I fitted all those years ago? And, is it still fitted with the boot spoiler I made? Happy days.
