Extractor fans
Hi all,
I just discovered that what I thought was a pair of Pioneer speakers in the rear of the car are actually extractor fans !!
Is this a standard modification or even a factory option? I could not find any mention in the build manual so I assume a mod by the previous owner.
Next question, if anyone has come across this before, how are they powered? I am unable to find a switch for them, then I thought maybe they are activated when the heater blower is on, which makes sense I guess. What do you think?
I am a little in the dark on this one as the original builder isnt answering the phone, so any help will be gratefully received !!
Cheers
Dave

Re: Extractor fans
what I forgot to say is that when the heater blower is on, these fans do not work !! So before I strip it all down to chase the circuit I thought I would ask the question of the experts !! Thanks
Re: Extractor fans
Nice idea. Are they wired up to the rear screen demister switch I wonder?
Re: Extractor fans
My coupees just had the small square vents in the back panel and the speakers were operational. For venting I had cut holes in the aft side panels (storage area), so the air could be extracted via the vents beside the tail lights. Also I used to drive with the sun roof slightly opened.
Re: Extractor fans
Looks like quite a good idea, I may use similar to aid air flow in mine .
I agree they could be to aid window demisting ,do they work at all and they push or pull,

Re: Extractor fans
having taken the dash apart today, I now know how they work...well how they will work when I connect them up.
I think I will run them at the same time as the heater blower. They appear to be PC case fans so will not draw much current, but will take them out to check the rating just in case !

I think I will mount a pair of speakers on the back panel now that this position is taken !!

I will wire them so they pull and act as extractor fans. This should help keep condensation down !!

Re: Extractor fans
I think Mike Perkins has a similar setup in his Mk4 couple
Re: Extractor fans
Just heard back from the builder and original owner, he thinks he connected them to the heater blower, so that was a good guess !
