Headlight alternatives

Post by MrBounce »

Are there any alternatives to the Allegro units for the Mk 1 which don't require any major changes? It's just the headlight unit itself I am thinking of - not all the mounting gubbins that go with it. What's available and the same size as the Allegro lights? Don't need sidelights but would prefer Halogens rather than the usual candles that come as standard.

I know that base model early Metro lamps are similar, as are Triumph Toledo. Are there any others? Triumph Acclaim maybe?

The headlights are a standard pattern used on lots of 70's-80's cars - Mk1 Metros (>1985) are probably the most common. Mk2 Metro (85>90) lights can also be made to fit; they are Halogen & won't rust, but you will need to rustle up some new adjusters.

Hi Mr bounce
Did you manage to sort out your headlights?
What did you use in the end, where from and how much?
I have managed to smash the glass lens in one of the headlights on Mk2 which uses the same headlights.

Whereabouts in Suffolk are you as I am not too far from Stowmarket, send me a pm.

I always thought they were from the Reliant Rialto, which some say were from the Hillman Avenger, like this:
