Re: Rear Coilover Mounts
Just out of interest, how thick is the fiberglass in the mounting area for the strut top?
Considering something similar myself (vertical coil overs i mean)
Cheers

Re: Rear Coilover Mounts
It seems to be about 10mm or so.
Re: Rear Coilover Mounts
Fantastic thanks, anyone got any pics?

Re: Rear Coilover Mounts
of what? have you got room to squeeze a coil-over in there without a turret?Jin wrote:Fantastic thanks, anyone got any pics?
Re: Rear Coilover Mounts
I can take a photo if you want, coilovers are on the car, don't know if your mk4 is the same though.
Re: Rear Coilover Mounts
I have been thinking of a spring conversion based on the mini rubber cone to coil spring for the rear as I have done on the front, weights are similar I would just have to look at mounts and pivot points. I'm getting another mk3 soon so again, watch this space
Re: Rear Coilover Mounts
Yes thanks, a photo would be nice,
I've no idea of what the gold setup looks like so can't envisage how to translate it onto the mk4, but a photo may help, failing that I too considered a mini type coil spring conversion thinking too the weights must be similar, failing that I'm also considering putting short length coil springs in seats between the boot floor and the radius arm similar to the quantum setup, I've found some springs only 75mm high, both the above would require a damper retrofitting but hopefully I'll be able to squeeze one in, I've 20mm spacers on the rear so that's bought me a bit more room.
You knever know it may never work and all be pie in the sky but it doesnet hurt to look, what else am I going to do tonight? Watch I'm a celebrity?:- err no

Photo from the side showing bracket I made with the red rubber to soften any impact should the suspension bottom out. The other photo is from beneath, it shows the Midas designed bracket for the lower mount and highlights how much I need to fit my new (not rusty) subframe on the back of the car

Re: Rear Coilover Mounts
Nicely done job there Richard, I presume you can rotate the top mounts to gain easier access to the nut and bolt heads for removal by slackening the internal bolt.
The only thing that does surprise me in a negative kind of way is that the subframe isn't all polished to your usual standard there, as for those drum brake back plates, SHOCKING!!!!

Re: Rear Coilover Mounts
Subframe is On the winter list, by spring it should be clean and bereft of any UN-necessary hydrogas support bracketry
