MK 2 Headlights ( halogen bulbs )
I have just bought some replacement headlights for my MK 2, they are direct replacements the same as the old allegro ones but they have come with H4 halogen bulbs, I am no expert auto sparky but do I need to wire in a relay? I've got a feeling I do but would prefer a bit more advice.

No you shouldn't need to so long as your midas isn't running big power hungry stereo and amps. Also if yours is the same as my decathlon it should have a black box on the drivers inner wing behind the headlamp this is a dim dip relay so should do the job

I don't have a black box on my inner wing, I'm just concerned about melting the switch when I turn the lights on.Inim666 wrote:No you shouldn't need to so long as your midas isn't running big power hungry stereo and amps. It should be ok I've owned minis for about 17 years and always swapped the headlamps for halogen ones without any issues or extra work

Here is the headlamp relay that is part of the original loom on my decathlon https://flic.kr/p/C8z9GM and here forget the fog relay on the left it's the right hand one https://flic.kr/p/C8z8gk

How odd considering they are built around the same time. I would have thought they would have used all the same components considering they are the same car essentially
