There's this one too.
Re: Q605 GDH Moth Busted Decathlon
My understanding is that they only ever managed to build 5 of the decathlon's so to have 4 of them at the same show is some achievement in my eyes.. It would also be good to see if there are any differences in them as mine has a factory fitted headlamp dim dip system from a Opel car

Your car looks really nice and low at the back Stuart. How did you manage this? Mine has just hit the road for the first time ever and rides really high

Sorry I should have said that's not mine, and I'm fairly sure it has changed hands since then too.Inim666 wrote:Your car looks really nice and low at the back Stuart. How did you manage this? Mine has just hit the road for the first time ever and rides really high
Yes they were always high as standard, ridiculously so. I fitted shorter dampers to mine, or the other option is using a run-flat spring with a shorter main spring. There are plenty of threads about on the subject on the forum.
Whilst not MK2 specific this thread should help http://midasownersclub.co.uk/forums/vie ... 759#p11759

Re my Decathlon, it is D4 bought from Corby in May 1990 and according to Harold Dermott it was the last one.

Yes it seems that d650unt is no longer in the uk as according to dvla it has been exported to where I don't know but it's no longer here
Re: Q605 GDH Moth Busted Decathlon
Hi Alberto I have somewhere a letter from alistair stating that they only built 5 as I'm currently getting mine officially registered as a Midas I will find it out and post it up. Was it just the colour that was special to the decathlon model?alberto midas wrote:Re my Decathlon, it is D4 bought from Corby in May 1990 and according to Harold Dermott it was the last one.

It was. It was the first time green was used. If I remember correctly they were to be the last MK2's made, or at least I believe that was the intention, perhaps a marketing ploy to boost sales. Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong though.Inim666 wrote:Was it just the colour that was special to the decathlon model?
Re: Q605 GDH Moth Busted Decathlon
I visited the Corby factory in October 1988 with the intension to order a black MK2. Harold informed me that production of the MK2 was to cease and to commemorate ten years of production, ten special edition MK2's were to be produced in BRG and named Decathlon ( there being ten events in a Decathlon ) a bit cheesy I thought. I loved BRG so I ordered one and as a promotion received £100 towards any option extras so I also ordered soundproofing and heated rear screen. I could have still ordered a black one If I really wanted one, so I think the Decathlon MK2 was also used to increase sales a bit.
Purely for nostalgia I have scanned my deposit receipt and final payment receipt also showing the £100 towards extras.

I picked up my kit in the January. Then in March I received a letter from Midas cars announcing the unveiling of the MK3 Convertible, so that was why production of the MK2 was going to stop. The letter did go on to say all the Decathlons had been sold unless that was just a bit of PR.
