Yes, all the loads have to go somewhere, but in the coupe, the top of the windscreen frame is connected to the rest of the car by the roof; so think of the roof brace as putting some of the roof back on :o .
The convertable has the windscreen bonded in, so that will help stiffen / strengthen the frame.

(I think).

I can't see it being greater than when the hard top is fitted, unless I'm missing something.

First one is the red conv now owned by johnyfixit, it has a race approved roll over bar that sits over the head of the driver and has extra struts.
The second one is the yellow lhd conv on my website. It is owned by German Josef Zabel who removed the whole roll over bar!
Here is a link to his car on his website:

There is a picture of my roll bar on the new download that Hans has just uploaded showing how it is crossed braced

Thanks Johnny,

Is the vertical location of the bar as per standard?

Yes and it also branches back in to the boot area off the side of the bar

If you could manage to post a few pictures around the cage I'd really appreciate it Johnny.

I spoke to Peter Hills about this roll over bar many years ago. He told me that it is a completely new designed one. The standard roll over bar is behind the drivers seat. This one is above the head of the driver. So it's no simply a modified standard item. For strength it's no issue, but for racing the bar must be above the drivers head.

That's never going to happen on my car, there isn't enough room. But then, I'm not intending thrashing it around a track either.
