What is the winder mech originally from as mine has broken today while out for a drive

From the door window? i believe it is from a ford escort mk1.

The window mechanism is definitely Ford. I thought it was out of an early Fiesta but Ill be happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

I'm also pretty confident it's Fiesta too. not sure if all marks of Midas have the same though
