Radius Arm Brackets

Some time ago, together with Stuart, we designed an extended stub axle for the Mk3 coupe and convertible. The Stub did away with the various metal brackets which are bolted to the radius arm. In time these brackets and their accompanying spacers rust or become loose. I got some extended stub axles turned. I only made six pairs and five of these stubs are fitted to various Mk3's. The new owners probably don't even know they have them. The idea was very successful and have been used in Mk3's since about 2009. with no reported problems. I've been asked on a number of occasions to reproduce these stub axles, but didn't have anyone to manufacture them, but now I do.
I have the first sample pair made and these have been improved with fillet radius's and stronger heat treated steel. If anyone is interested in a pair let me know. Price will depend on how many we order, but I'm anticipating some where in the region of £80 to £100 a pair, posted to a UK destination.

That and a number of other photos are on my phone and I haven't worked out how to get them from my phone to the computer. The other challenge I'm having with posting is with photobucket in that it is so add laden it is almost impossible to use. Can anyone recommended another photo hosting site.

I've just had a radius arm in the vise, working on one of the other types of bracket!
This arm has seen some use, and I was thinking about your stub axles at the time; in particular, the original stub axle in this arm seems to be comprehensively rusted in, and looks like it would be a pig to shift. Is the fitting of your stub axles really a job for an engineering shop? I presume it's an interference fit.

They really need pressing in and out, although I understand Stan managed it with a big hammer

Yes they are an interference fit,I can possibly press them out and in for you, it's just a case of getting the radius arms to me. Look on EBay new ones are still available. I've just bought two pairs for £70. Its cheaper than renovating them.

I currently have three rear subframes with radius arms!
Unfortunately, only one is in reasonable condition, but this extends to the radius arms; I think there's a good chance their stub axles could be persuaded to move. I appreciate the offer to make the change, but I think it might be more practical for me to get one of the engineering shops in Dundee to fit them.

At present I have a pair of brackets of the open-topped box section type which were supplied to Alistair welded together incorrectly; I've split them apart and have just welded one side together. However, in doing so, I've managed to introduce some distortion, which might have made it unusable - I haven't tried to straighten it yet - so I'll put my name down for a set of your stub axles anyway.

Most garages have a press that will do the job, just need a bit of bar and sleeve to push or protect some parts.

Around these parts engineering shops are very thin on the ground nowadays, plenty of garages though.
