For the person wanting to cool down their engine bay in a Mk3 (or later Mk2's), heres an interesting solution:
145mm (5.75") air ducts. Cheap as chips too.

Just take out the spot lights, throw them in the bin and put these in instead. Should be a dead easy fit and particularly useful for those with turbos (eg Hans). Merlin sports even does an electric blower kit:

Some clever tinkering could even use the existing spot brackets to make the ducts directable.
Who needs spots anyway. They're for wusses (only kidding). Eat more carrots instead.
Cheers,
David

Re: Underbonnet cooling
I've got a a ducted fan from a Renault 5 turbo waiting for installation. Not that I need it at the moment. With the big airhoses running into the engine compartment it is pretty unbelievable how cools it stays. When I bought the car it suffered from vapour lock and the bonnet was too hot to touch. Now after a quick run it is still cool.
Re: Underbonnet cooling
Made an enquiry with revotec today and they do some spun alloy ducts to suit the 5.75 hole which are, coincidently for me, due to be available in a couple of weeks.
