Don Trimming in Birmingham and Bournemouth.

A new one in mohair for my Excelsior cost me £600 in 2013.
They also made me a vinyl tonneau cover in 2010, which made it a lot less draughty with the hood off.

Thanks Ben

£600 - ouch - I was expecting around 300.

Might not happen any time soon - will ask them for a price though and let folk know.

That's a lot of money, what is Alistair asking for a hood?

I spoke to Don Trimming - all a bit vague on pricing - never done one before so would need to have the old one and strip it down to use as template for new.

Price too high but that process explains perhaps why.

I will ask Alistair - I have a hood but its long past its best.

I don't know where GTM got them, but they were asking 295 for a vinyl top and just 80 extra for a mohair. To bad the previous owner of my car skimped out and got the vinyl top. That said, I only have used it 3 times this year. Even with moderate rain I prefer to drive open. With enough speed the interior stays dry. On my bucketlist is still to find a factory folding soft top that more or less fits, I still need to measure up an MX5 hood.

I remember doing a similar thing in my 306 cabriolet.

Its a Mohair hood I require - Like you Hans I am not keen on vinyl. The hood arrangement for the Midas is perhaps one of its least resolved areas of design.

Given the hardtop looks to my eyes pretty much spot on the hood as it rises up over the roll bar does spoil the lines of the car. A colour coded Mohair in Navy to match Piglets paintwork is what's needed.

So all I need to know is who makes them - I think they can all copy them but that adds to the price, Don wanted £540 inc VAT for a colour mohair. Half what I gave the car in the first place!!!
