Fuel filler

OK, here I am again!

I have just taken my filler tube and cap off the car in order to fit a Monza style flip up cap, with lockable insert.

I had a though that maybe I could block off the two breather pipes - especially the large one that goes to the tank - if I fitted a VENTED cap.

What say you? Does this make sense or not?

I don't think I've got these on mine, but is it possible they help to let air out when you fill the tank, to avoid spitting back?
