TNF 642X - Still with us after 33 years

Post by Tich731 »

Chassis no. DO.20072

We collected our Midas Silver from Greenfield in April 1981.
After a leisurely build based on a 1275GT, it was registered in August 1981 and was for a long time our only car, with a child's seat bolted to the back of the rear seat for our son in 1982.
It had a respray within 2 years because of fading red gelcoat. We chose Chrysler Wardance as it closely matched the original colour. I sprayed it a second time(same colour) about 8 years ago in an attempt to deal with micro-blistering and other blemishes.
It was in daily use up until 2 years ago when we put it on SORN. Commitments meant we used other cars in our fleet.
Now it is kept in the garage and still looks great when I occassionally wheel it out onto the drive to work in the garage.

On 1st August 2021, our MkII will be 40 years since first registration. DVLA site shows that it can be exempt from road tax but cannot be changed to Historic Vehicle Class until 1st April next year.

Quite a few cars will now have reached 'old age' and become tax free. The pics here and the process of getting it validated by the DVLA might make an informative article for the magazine.
