What a difference!

Post by Rich »

I've been plagued with rattles and shakes ever since the car went on the road, today I finally made up some thin delrin sleeves to fit over the striker pins for the doors, bonnet and boot.

What a result! The doors sound better when closing, the rattles have gone, the car feels much more solid on the road and the door shut lines are back where they should be. Were these fitted as standard?

I could turn some door ones up if you want? I'm out of the larger diameter delrin.

I've managed to fix the rattle from the hard top as it was worn as well (door draught tape worked wonders ;) ) Just the knock on the anti roll bar still to sort
can't find any of the U clamps next to the D bushes anywhere.

Might be worth trying the Metro Owners Club forum, I'm happy to ask on your behalf if you want. I thought there was only one type of clamp fitted to the A series Metro, what have you got?

in the orange haynes austin metro book pg 248 fig 13.68 anti roll bar knock rectification

The correct clamps are available from your BL dealer

mine are the wrong size and don't really clamp the bar probably causing the knock

Hi John,

The widgets are in the post, I don't know how durable they are going to be as they are very thin (and loads of fun to turn on a lathe  ). A more robust method might be to turn some diameter off the door pin and use a correspondingly thicker delrin sleeve. Give them a try and see what happens, if they are too thick you can wrap them round a 9.5mm drill bit shank and gently sand them down.

I've put a request on the Metro Owners site ref the ARB clamps, we'll see what turns up.

Hi John,

I might have a lead on your clamps a bloke on the Metro owners forum thinks he might have a pair he'd be willing to part with for £5 posted. If he finds them I'll pass you his email address and you can sort out the details between you.
