Petrol tank

Post by Geoff Butcher »

I'm thinking of changing my tank, but I see in the build manual it says that an assistant is required. How hard is to do on your own, and what snags am I going to find?

I did the tank on my Gold by myself, just needed to wedge it up with my knee while I ran a couple of nuts on to hold it in place.

Does it help if you're a contortionist?

I'm a long way from being a contortionist mate, more stressful was finding how hard I was going to have to belt my brand new tank with a hammer to make it fit between the hydrolastic turrets on the subframe.

Oh, what fun I had removing the 23 year old tank mounting bolts! Being an observant sort of chap, I noticed my new tank has, apart from the filler, no fewer than three pipes, two quarter inch and one five-eighths, coming out of the back. What can these be for, I wonder, as the present tank manages quite well with none?

I think they might be for the fuel injection and am guessing it's a Rover 100 tank! I think you should fit the engine to match the tank!
