Always nice to reach a milestone.

Yes, it makes you wonder whether the others have stuck the car in a shed and forgotten about it, or, do they know it all already? And don't want to share it!Stuart wrote:200 members out of which only around 10 of them are active members
I've been driving Midases for the best part of 20 years (gulp!) and I still wouldn't want to do without this forum.

I'll admit I'm not a club member but used to be and there was always sniping from people such as 'ooh I wouldn't have done that' or 'GTM cars have nothing on my early 1' and the all time favourite when I fitted 14" wheels years ago and a prominent member of the time said 'I'd ruined the handling which is the selling point of the car' without ever driving my car and now I've noticed a few people have fitted 14" wheels. I built my car for me and got sick of peoples negative comments because I'd done things differently to theirs.Geoff Butcher wrote:Yes, it makes you wonder whether the others have stuck the car in a shed and forgotten about it, or, do they know it all already? It's still nice to talk to people on here and have friendly discussions but can't be doing with the sort of mentality of club members of the time. Hope these comments don't offend anybody on here

Ah th 14" wheel on a Mk3 and 13" on a Mk1/2 argument, that takes me back a while I remember it well along with the fear of change paranoia. The wheel one was something to do with tramlining on a HGV rutted motorway if I remember. It only goes to show how the human mind based on a single bad experience can spawn a fiercely defended opinion despite the huge number of variables and possible mitigations in the subject.
Thankfully the club has moved on a lot these days and has settled on a much better footing in that is now all about keeping the cars on the road and a more sociable approach. Between he mid 90's and early 2000's the club lost it's way a bit.
cheers,
mike

That's about average for most forums, mine's running at about 2500 members but only a rough 10% are active regularly.

Yes I will totally agree with you there Wolfie.wolfie wrote:I'll admit I'm not a club member but used to be and there was always sniping from people such as 'ooh I wouldn't have done that' or 'GTM cars have nothing on my early 1' and the all time favourite when I fitted 14" wheels years ago and a prominent member of the time said 'I'd ruined the handling which is the selling point of the car' without ever driving my car and now I've noticed a few people have fitted 14" wheels. If its any consolation, its the same at yacht clubs too. Similar issues, similar Politics/power struggles etc.
I'm going to be a bit un PC here but one issue I can't stand though is something that I overheard in the last few years when someone complained about using photos in publications of cars without permission.
Forgive me if I am not mistaken, but surely the aim of the club is actually to 'Promote the Interests of the Cars etc etc'..... I would say stuff like that.....that means the odd photo is put up without consent because someone has found the car interesting....is that a bad thing? Its not a closed shop for the few and shouldn't be. If it is, its time to pack up....and is that fatal attitude that probably drove some very important Honorary members away.
Anyway, hearing all this about photos and being basically told this forum is crap made me walk out of the AGM tent in disgust.
