Megajolt

I'm considering fitting a megajolt kit to my turbo engine and doing away with the dizzy but absolutely hate doing car electrics. Has anybody fitted one of the kits (I was looking on the Trigger Wheels website) and was it pretty simple or a pain in the arse and are there any preset maps suitable as a starting point for a turboed engine? Any help or advice appreciated

Hi Wolfie,

Megajolt comes with default maps in both NA and Turbo that will get you up and running, there is a library of maps on the support forum though your best bet is to get it set up properly for your installation. The support forum and online instructions are excellent and Brent who owns the company will always go that little extra to help out a customer.

I fitted MegaJolt when I rebuilt my Convertible, I wouldn't say it is difficult but it certainly is fiddly and you need to work slowly and methodically, particularly if your loom has already been hacked about over the years. The results are definitely worth it. Having used all second hand components in mine (apart from the ECU) I would suggest at least buying the connectors new for the EDIS, coil units and crank sensor, they are a pain to take apart and solder new wires to reliably.

There are pictures somewhere on the forum of how I fitted both my trigger wheel and sensor bracket. I used the standard wheel from Trigger Wheels rather than the A series setup. Apart from losing the wheel once and a cracked solder joint at the sensor, both my fault, mine has worked perfectly well.

The best place for a megajolt turbo map is probably the turbominis forum.

To be honest I would spend a few extra pennies and get the megasqurt though. As someone who has had both I would advise that its a far better documented and supported piece of kit and can be used for fuel injection and NOX too. Better software too.

In respect of the wiring, if you get the relay box for the megasquirt its just a case of wiring up the wires to the battery via a switch or ignition key then feeding in the VR sensor, edis (or direct to coil) etc via the relay box.

With either Megasquirt or Megajolt you will get a huge leap in benefits for your engine.

I was thinking of getting the complete kit with wiring loom from them. I know it will cost nearly £400 doing it this way but atleast I will know everything works as it will be new or refurbed so if there are problems I can pretty much discount duff parts and just blame my ineptness Plus getting round scrapyards in a wheelchair is a real pain in the arse

Although I hate xmas I'm hoping I can abuse it to get the family to club together and get it for me or send the old man scrapyard wombling for me but he'd probably forget about the stuff I need and start sniffing around for parts he can use on his projects

I think my MegaJolt was up and running for £120 all in. That however was when you could still buy an ECU kit for home soldering.

We don't have an scrappies down here that let you wander round, it's all over the counter now. It's just as easy to use Ebay for the ford parts. What sort of money is a Megasquirt system these days?

I understand the latest MSIII is the one to get for the 5 ports. A lot of dev code on them for the siamese ports. But you can hack a MSII to do it too.

Theres someone in the UK but I found them a bit dear.
