Carb vent?

While poking about under my bonnet I found a bit of hose attached to the right side of the carb which had been dangling on the manifold. I can't find anywhere for the loose end to go, so am I right in thinking it's just a breather? In which case I might just as well pull it off and reduce the clutter a bit.

I think I'd be wanting to steer that carb vent onto a hose well away from a hot exhaust manifold.....

I have my leading away down the back of the subframe.
