Mystery clip

While my car was on the hoist today for the MoT we had a look for the source of a slight rattle at the back, and found a loose jubilee clip on the exhaust pipe in the vicinity of the rear subframe. It appears to have no function whatsoever, but it didn't get there by itself, so the question is, what possible reason did someone have for putting it there? We tightened it up and left it - needless to say the rattle is still there

I've got two or three jubilee clips on the rear section of my exhaust, they secure a heat resistant wrap around the pipe just below the fuel tank.

It's never had any wrap on it since I've had it. Still, at least I know where to find a nice stainless clip if ever I need one!
