Electric fan kicking in late?

Post by Moneypit »

Hi
I've got a 1275 engine in the Midas which generally runs with the temp gauge registering just over half way.
I know these gauges might not be that accurate but the electric fan doesn't kick in untill the gauge is almost into the far yellow section.
I changed the rad when I first had it and the switch too. It was the same with both.
The engine runs fine. Coolant level is always ok.
Does any body elses gauge register about the same when the fan comes on.

Cheers

It's hard to say when you are using the standard gauges, mine would always creep towards the red after a run when the heat soak kicked in. I've now got a digital gauge and it's not getting anywhere near as hot as I'd feared.

I had similar apparent problem which finally came down to poor electrical earth giving false readings. It was interesting to see the temperature rise if I switched on the heater fan or the headlights !! Life is always fun with a Midas , isn't it ?
