It's painted, according to the club list it was a red car, built by Anthony Williams.

I think this could actually be the original gel colour. I wanted my 1985 Bronze to be red, until I saw what Harold's interpretation of "red" was.

It was orange (well, to my eyes, anyway).

I think it looks awesome. I almost want it. Reminds me of an old Porsche Carrera RS color.

But the seller speaks of bubbles under the paint, so I am not sure if this is all original gelcoat.

Is it me, or is this a late mk1 shell modified at the factory to be a mk2? The arches dont look like mk2's, more like the narrower mk1's, and to what looks to be a mk1 bonnet?
It's confusing, my Dad has a totally original mk1, but has always had a mk2 bonnet  :)

The first MK 2's had narrow front wheel arches. So has your Dad's bonnet got the cut-out below the windscreen for the vent intake?

Mark 1 chassis numbers went up to number 67 I think, I used to own chassis number 64,now owned by David Angles. I still own chassis number 27 I think that's the correct number, this particular car was registered in 1981. Your car has chassis number 78 so I agree with Stuart it's an early Mark 2 and a very nice one at that.
