Winding windows.

Post by Victorc »

Hi,
My convertable has a problem with the glass on the drivers window.
When I start to wind it down, it seems to drop at the front and then Jam.
I can make it work by holding the back of the glass when I am winding it, but this is not very practical when the car is moving.
(I prefer to have at least one hand on the steering wheel :o )
The glass is still attached to the rail (with what looks like a lot of epoxy resin).
Is there something else i should look for?
Regards
Victor

You should test it without the doorcard and see what's wrong. Possibly the wrong size glass. Else it may not be fastened properly in the clamp, or you need to lubricate the channel seals (should be a sor of felt) with f.e. teflon spray. It's not normal, my glass works perfectly. Maybe compare your door with another Midas convertible.

Thanks.
THe window has been working OK for over a year, so I did look for anything missing or broken, but there were no obvious issues.
I will try the lubrication.

it has to be said that the early convertible window winder mechanisms were crap. Mine used to jam all the time with exactly the same symptom.

I recommend the new style frames which are more substantial.

David,
What do you mean by "the new style" frames.
Is this a modification of the existing, or a replacement?

There are some new frames out now, which use more of the metro running gear for windows and work a lot better.

They seem to sit better and there is less frame showing above the door line.....plus if you have a side on, the front triangular section is much less likely to spear your eyeballs out.
