Having tried four differing non A-series engines in a Mk 2. I can tell you that no modern four cylinder engine will in the front, unless you move the headlights forward. This also applies to a Mk3. I do have a three cylinder engine to try, but as yet have not found time to do it. Never the less the most sensible and practical engine conversion is the K-series, not because of the engine, but the gearbox. The R65 Metro gearbox has the best diff. ratios for our small wheels. Modern cars with their 14" and 15" wheels have lower diff. ratios and become too low geared for 13" wheels. The problem can be solved in all situations, at a price!

But this is off topic for this thread, so start another thread or do some research it's a fascinating subject. It's kept me entertained for hours on the computer. I'm not beaten yet, I still have some more tricks up my sleeve. I just need time and health.

Did we really get to the heady heights of 800 members Alan? I remember the high three hundreds, but happy to be corrected.
You are quite right Stuart, I'd used that figure in the wrong context! But never the less it just shows the interest out little cars have generated over the years and they are still going 30 years later.

Remember this weekend in 2006. Was that the year you came?

Somebody may recognise your car as both the Coupe's have been moved on. If only the cars could relate the little adventures which they have had over the years!

Yes September 2006 was the year you had the Midas weekend. I came to Moffatt in 2007 as well.

Yes Stuart,
Correct again, well spotted! I was hoping that Croft would be an annual northern Midas meeting, but alas this event won't happen again for us. Due to the organiser limiting the entrée to pre 1972 cars, a purely commercial decision, as I understand it! So we will have to think of something else to do.

That's a shame. It's always good to see Midas out on a track.
