XWC 296 S - another Midas now on the road

Post by mfdriver »

Despite the drizzle this morning I took the car out for a run to the newsagent and back. caused great excitement amongst the customers as the exhaust manifold bandage is still settling in, and all thought the car was on fire. All was well and only disappointment is that speedo doesn't work but mileometer does - I assume the cogs have gone for the needle and so it will be impossible to do an easy fix. I run my Cooper S with a digital GPS speedo which works well, so will go down that route.
Just thought you would like to know there is another one back on the road.

Out on the road is where these cars should be! Well done, I trust you took the long way to the Newsagents :) I think that speedo needs some exercise to get it working it's clearly ceased up from being idle too long

Took Midas to Maniflow in Salisbury this morning to have bespoke exhaust system fitted. They have done a fantastic job and I recommend them to everyone thinking of upgrading their system. I was so impressed when shown the finished job up on the lift that I forget to take any pictures. That's what happens when you get old.
Two cherry bomb silencers and long tailpipe exiting to right rear makes for a wonderful mini exhaust note.
I guess I am very lucky living near Salisbury, as have Maniflow, Burlen/SU and Slark Race Engineering all within 25 minutes drive away.
Electrics tomorrow to fit auxiliary outlet for digital GPS speedo and then just waiting for final painting to be done.

That looks fantastic, is it a full re spray or just the grey bits?
Good combo, gives me a few ideas

Its more RAF blue than grey, or am I being picky! It is photographed in artificial light - I will take some more when I collect it on Friday.
The repaint is just the coloured bits, I couldn't afford to do the whole car.
I found an all white car a bit hard to cope with, especially trying to polish it in sunny weather - snow blindness.
Also a vast expanse of white seemed to attract a large swarm of flies!!
My other half is impressed (she chose the colour - good tactic) so it must be alright
