Re: MKII suzuki 1300 gti 16 v conversion
For the moment I am busy with the front and rear spoiler and the doors .
The spoilers have a lot of cracking in the polyester and the mechanism of the doors shows a lot of rust ,also the hinges must be repaired .
So this are the things to solve in the first coming weeks
I keep you informed of the progress .
All info is very welcome !!!

Mechanism of the doors are rusty , the big parts which can be separated easily and will be sandblasted and metallized.
Other parts will be treated with liquid which will resolve the rust and painted with anti rust paint .

Re: MKII suzuki 1300 gti 16 v conversion
The frontspoiler had some crackings , I milled them out just to the polyester laminate and filled them up with coloured topcoat + hardener , just a little above the spoiler surface .
After one day I sanded this places with 200/400/ 800 grains with good result .
As cracks are coming from an impact or from places where the polyester laminate isn't strong enough ( the laminate can move , but not the gelcoat ) I have laminated the inside of the spoiler with a polyester linen tissue ,this will make the spoiler more stiffer and help to avoid the cracks ( I hope ).
Finally I will put a 2 component -filler -primer to cover all the little holes .

Re: MKII suzuki 1300 gti 16 v conversion
I have all the carpets removed , but there was still a lot of glue on the bottom .
As I want to make a sandwich laminated construction on the floor to make the car stiffer , I had to remove all the glue to get a good contact with the polyester .
Also I will renforce the bottom where the rear mounts of the subframe are connected, to get a much stronger panel .

Subframe is already made.
I think I'll make a movable front .

Re: MKII suzuki 1300 gti 16 v conversion
Hi , I started with the lamination of the sandwisch floor , I just put one triaxiale layer all over the floor , then the fillingstrips 12 cm width and 4 mm thick and laminate with a triaxiale layer again .
The next layer comes with the fillingstrip between 2 other fillingstrips , I do this 3 to 4 times alternatively , normally I should get +-20/ 30 mm .
Before I put 3 layers more at the floorarea where the rear mounts of the frontfame are fixed ,this to get more strength of the floor panel .

Re: MKII suzuki 1300 gti 16 v conversion
That's going to be strong, I'd take a look at the GTM Libra for ideas on additional box sections, I'd also consider a taller rear bulkhead inline with the rear subframe bulkhead for reducing shell twist and improved side impact protection.
edit, forgot to say I'd try to keep the nose the standard length with headlight changes to give space for the cambelt area.
Have you seen Lawson's mods on Facebook to his Micra engined mk2 ?
