Micra engine

Post by wolfie »

Well its been a long time since I was last on here due to ill health but after years of sat looking at my gold convertible and refusing to sell it I've decided i'm going to go hard at it next year (well designing stuff now in preparation for next year). I pulled the tarp off today and the bodyshell is showing its age so this will be like building a car from scratch. I've decided cost wise and for fun I'll buy a knackered micra with the 1300 CG engine as this will give more power and way more torque than the current 1293 plus a 5 speed box. The only thing concerning me is the engines height in the frame so wondering if anybody on here owns a micra and could measure the height. You can buy a whole car for £200n  so this could actually be a very cheap conversion compared to some mini ones and a nova 1 I did back in the 90's

Are you doing the conversion as well then? I'm hoping i'll be able to find a 1.3 beater so I can just swap out what I need and sell the rest for scrap

Well if I ever get around to it that's a yes, struggling to find any motivation to get on with it. It'll make for a very nice car though.

I know that feeling but next year will be the year so my struggles may either help you or put you off even trying lol. After some rough doodles I think I'll be modding the subframe to fit the engine and have coilover suspension. I've decided I need to do a lot of maths to sort out the scuttle shake as well because its the 1 thing thats always irritated me

Nice 1. Was much work needed to squeeze it in other than tweeking the subframe?

The engine encroaches into the o/s headlight so that needs a solution. The rest is just subframe mods

I've been thinking about the headlight issue and to keep the frogeye look I may look at changing from 7" headlights to 5 3/4" so they can move forward without looking like a choking frog
