2015 Open Day and MOC barbeque.

DSCF0440This year’s event took place on Sunday 19 July.  Over 50 people  and  15 Midas Cars turned out for the day.

With 1 Mk2 Coupe, 4 Mk3 Gold Coupes, 4 Gold Convertibles, 4 Mk4 Cortez Coupes and two Excelsior convertibles present, just about every model was represented and, if you include the cars being worked on in Alistair’s workshop, every model was there.

As usual tea, coffee and cake was served on arrival and everybody got into the swing by talking about important matters, i.e. our Midas Cars.

The Owners’ Club Barbeque soon got fired up and we all tucked into a lunch of burgers. hot-dogs and chicken drumsticks (there were also some salad side dishes available for those seeking something healthier).

After lunch, the club held a brief open meeting where the main topic of discussion was the future of the club committee. A largely new committee will be needed for next year’s AGM at Stoneleigh, but it is hoped that the current structure will be replaced by one with more officers sharing out the work more evenly. Ways of streamlining the work of the committee by use of more advanced IT solutions were discussed, but it is clear that more work needs to be done on this. Apart from the important job of forming a new committee, upcoming events were also discussed: As can be seen from the club calendar, we have an open invitation from the Dutch Mini-Marcos and Marcos Club to attend their Euregio meeting at Leusden on August 30th. Any Midas owner can attend, just follow the contact details given on the calendar page. Then we have the Haynes Rare Breeds Show September the 6th, at Sparkford in Somerset. Last year we had 8 cars in attendance, which is pretty good for a show down in the South-West.  Finally, for this year at least, we have the Mini ActionDay at Castle Combe on September 26th. Again for both of these events, contact details are given on the calendar pages.  The club has no plans to attend the Circuit de Remparts this year, but plans were discussed to organize a trip to the Classic Le-Mans event for next summer.  We finished off with a vote of thanks to those who organized the day, especially to Mary and Marie for the food and then we moved on to the traditional group photo.
