The Mini-Marcos and Marcos Euro-regions meeting 2015 – Leusden August 30th.

Euregio2015-3Three European Midas owners attended the Mini-Marcos and Marcos Euregio event and had a great time.  The Midas and the Mini-Marcos share a common bond in that the Midas was born out of Harold Dermott’s experiences gained from building the Mini-Marcos. The owners of all the cars, Midas, Mini Marcos and Marcos, also share a common bond that comes from driving a car that is different from the mainstream and the enjoyment of driving a car that is not simply a tool for getting from A to B.

2015 Open Day and MOC barbeque.

DSCF0440This year’s event took place on Sunday 19 July.  Over 50 people  and  15 Midas Cars turned out for the day.

With 1 Mk2 Coupe, 4 Mk3 Gold Coupes, 4 Gold Convertibles, 4 Mk4 Cortez Coupes and two Excelsior convertibles present, just about every model was represented and, if you include the cars being worked on in Alistair’s workshop, every model was there.

As usual tea, coffee and cake was served on arrival and everybody got into the swing by talking about important matters, i.e. our Midas Cars.

The Owners’ Club Barbeque soon got fired up and we all tucked into a lunch of burgers. hot-dogs and chicken drumsticks (there were also some salad side dishes available for those seeking something healthier).

Midas Cars featured in Complete Kit Car photo shoot

Complete Kit Car July 2015

Complete Kit Car July 2015

During the National Kit Car Show, at Stoneleigh, Ian Stent of Complete Kit Car magazine gathered together a selection of Midas models for a photo shoot.

The results can be seen on the cover and in a seven page feature in the July 2015 issue.

In the feature, Ian relates the history of the Midas marque and how the MOC was founded.

David Johnson

David JohnsonIt was with great sadness that we learned of the death of David Johnson at the beginning of June.   David had been our Membership Secretary for the last couple of years and had done a great job of sorting out the membership records and boosting our numbers.

He will be greatly missed by us all. Not just as our Membership Secretary, but also as a great Midas enthusiast who regularly attended events in his Midas.

A small delegation of Midas owners attended David’s funeral and joined other mourners in remembering a man who embraced life with much enthusiasm, joy and good humour.

National Kit Car Show, Stoneleigh, May 2015

Stoneleigh stand 2015With the club celebrating its 30th anniversary, we were delighted with an excellent turn out of cars. We had 19 cars on the stand for Sundays AGM day and 17 cars present on the Monday.  A total of 21 different cars over the show. Although the show started with traditional bank holiday drizzle, by late morning the sun was out and remained with us for the rest of the event.

We celebrated the anniversary with a Midas Gold cake, created for us by Jayne Courtney, and a club meal  on Sunday evening at a carvery in nearby Coventry.

Complete Kit Car magazine also joined in our celebration (after Tony had bribed them with MOC cupcakes!) and took a group of our smartest looking cars for a photo session, the results of which can be seen in (and on the cover!) of the July issue of CKC – see above.

The AGM reported that the membership was on the rise again after several years of decline and that the clubs finances were in good health.

Sadly our lady chairman, Josie Horsley, has now stood down after giving us notice at last year’s AGM and Tony Moss announced that he intends to stand down from his Club Secretary role next year.  This means that the club committee is in need of some fresh blood and it is hoped that this can also bring in some extra IT capability as the club needs to update its systems and move to a more modern on-line basis, with more members sharing the organizing of club events.

Events insurance

Midas at Castle Combe circuit

Just to clarify following an enquiry – the club’s Public Liability Insurance covers our attendance or presence at an event. It does NOT cover individual members participating in anything competitive, not even demonstration runs, welly throwing, bouncy castle or anything vaguely similar. Members MUST arrange their own insurance for anything of that nature. If in doubt, please ask.

Michael.

MOC Gallery – We need YOU!

As mentioned on The Midas Forum, the gallery has been changed somewhat, we now have a ‘Midas Family’ folder, and a ‘Members Cars’ section that I would like to flesh out!

This post is a request for photos of YOUR Midas.

For the Midas Family folder, I would like 3 photos of your car, showing the front, side and back. These don’t have to be square on, just to get a general overview of your car externally.
It is also preferable if you can provide the chassis number such that I can tag your photos with it.

For the Members Cars section, please send me as many photos as you please – I don’t need everything and anything, take a look at James’ and Hans’ as examples.
I can add a description to your folder, or to individual images if you wish, but I doubt we will have that many views via the gallery, and may make a request in the future for more information with regards to your car to populate a blog page or mini-article.

For all images the higher-res the better!

You can email all photos direct to my mail box: secretary@midasownersclub.co.uk

Joint magazine, material required!

We are running short of material for the next and subsequent mags.    Please members – let us have something, visits made, rebuild hints, events attended, pictures of your cat or anything which you would like to see in print.     All contributions gratefully received – contact Roger, Michael or any committee member.  Thanks in advance.

New MOC website!
